The Victoria’s Poker client is a generic client that doesn’t have a lot of features. It is functional but nothing more: the graphics are average, the lobby looks like most other lobbies and there is a bare minimum of options on the tables. Actually, it is not too unlike the Paradise client – in 1999. One good thing is that they offer a Mac version of the client. Since I do not have a Mac I have, however, not been able to review that version.
There is not a whole lot to say about this client. The lobby has a tabbed list view of games and tables as well as for single table and multi table tournaments. There is also a row of buttons for login, account creation, waiting list and cashier. The “login” and “create account” buttons are still there when you are logged in however and I am being a bit nice when I call it buttons: it’s actually just clickable text, apparently in plain Times New Roman font. This looks a bit Spartan I think, couldn’t they have designed buttons? They have in all other places so why not here? The overall feeling is that the software lacks finish and appears to be half finished in many ways. Unfortunately, the action on Victoria’s Poker seems to average about three players on a play money table so it is unlikely that there will be economic possibilities for improving the software.
The tables look ok although the graphics add to the beta-version feel of this client. The controls are functional. In the big bet games you have a bet size slider that is smooth but tiny and there is no option to enter bet sizes manually. I was unable to test the multi table capabilities of this client for a very practical reason: there was only one play money table going and it seems this is about the maximum traffic here. Maybe, if they start marketing their site in some way and attract players I can get back and test this.
Overall, the Victoria’s Poker software has a beta-version feel to it. It has the bare essentials but nothing more – you can play but it feels like a relic from days passed. |
